FS: Asset management

The asset management sector has seen unprecedented change in recent years and is facing several challenges coupled with regulatory changes. There is a focus on governance and controls as well as investment returns. Service providers are under pressure to reduce costs, develop new, innovative services that assist asset managers in managing risk, enhance return and bridge the gap between the asset manager and the investor.

Not withstanding pressure on operating models due to the pressure to reduce costs, provide new services for growth and develop new investment products, the industry is facing unprecedented volume of global regulation. The sector is focusing on using technology more effectively, streamlining operations and processes and eliminating duplication. Regulation brings challenges but also opportunities.

Our PwC asset management team has the experience and expertise to assist you in dealing with these changes and the challenges and opportunities they bring.

Pharmaceuticals

Existing pharmaceutical business models are likely to change dramatically over the next decade in response to global industry trends. As leading advisor to this sector, both in Ireland and internationally, our understanding of these challenges and their potential impact is unrivalled.

The move towards personalised medicine at a time of unprecedented pressure on healthcare budgets will lead to greater focus on payment for managed outcomes, less tolerance for "me too" drugs.

At the same time, falling R&D productivity and a greater move to manufacturing outsourcing means that pharmaceutical companies supply chains are likely to become more complex and to have more associated parties than at present.

In this new environment, how are you planning to alter your business model to protect your existing operations and to take advantage of the new opportunities that will undoubtedly arise? Whether it is planning ahead or planning to stay ahead, we can help.

Retail, consumer and food

The current economic environment presents a myriad of challenges for retail and consumer (R&C) goods companies. The retail and consumer industry is facing increasing pressure. Consumer’s belts are tightening with the continuing fragility of the Irish economy and the impact of the Government’s austerity measures. Rising commodity costs coupled with environmental and ethical issues affecting the supply chain are also putting further pressures on margins. Brands are diversifying into new areas to fit in with cash conscious consumers. Multi-channel retailing is increasing as technology continues to change the way consumers shop. With these new distribution channels, retail and consumer product companies must keep up with customer demands as information concerning buying habits becomes increasingly important. Our understanding of these issues is at the heart of our delivery of services to retail and consumer companies. We provide practical industry-focused advisory services to help you address your business issues.
