Recent EU classification regulations

The European Commission has recently published three Regulations concerning the classification of certain goods in the Combined Nomenclature.

The goods in question are:

• A bolt with a washer, an expandable sleeve and a nut, all made of stainless steel, used for fixing articles to a hard substance. The components constitute a single product – an ‘expansion bolt’. The expansion bolt cannot be classified as a “bolt, whether or not with its nuts and washers” due to the presence of the anchor sleeve. Therefore, the product is classified at 7318 19 00 as other threaded articles
• Two interconnected printed circuit assemblies, containing both passive and active components, which are specifically designed to be mounted into the signalling equipment of a specific model of a motor vehicle. The article is classified as a part of electrical lighting or signalling equipment of a kind used for motor vehicles at subheading 8512 90 90
• An ‘airbag inflator’ comprised of a cylindrical container made of steel, electrical contact pins, an igniter, a chamber with pyrotechnic generant, a chamber with a mixture of gases and a gas discharge nozzle. The airbag inflator is for incorporation into the safety airbag system of a motor vehicle. The product is classified at 8708 95 99 as a part of “safety airbags with inflator system”
