This time, they report stronger revenue forecasts and a boost in international sales. Hiring is flat. Some are concerned about potential barriers to growth. Recent natural disasters in Japan have prompted many to examine their worldwide supply chain and business continuity plans. It's good to see that despite less optimism about the economic outlook, many are planning to invest in new capital and to increase spending over the next 12 months. |

What's happening in tax for multinational manufacturing companies? Collaboration among revenue authorities around the world is increasing. One of the biggest emerging trends we're seeing is the pursuit of “joint audits”. This is where a taxpayer is audited by a single audit team of representatives from multiple tax jurisdictions. This is the next step to even greater cooperation between taxing authorities. We think multinational industrial manufacturing companies need to consider the pros and cons of engaging in a joint audit, taking into account the potential risks and cost-saving rewards with respect to all taxing jurisdictions involved.
