PwC Cork recently hosted a 'Women in Business' event entitled 'Building Emotional Resilience', to promote the importance of mental health and well-being in today’s hectic workplace environment.
It is increasingly recognised by employers that fostering a positive work culture is significant not only for employees’ mental health but for boosting productivity and performance. Emotional well-being contributes to employee morale, teamwork and communication.

Guest speaker at the event, Barbara Nugent of Transilient Coaching, said: “The World Health organisation mentions that a healthy working environment is not just the absence of harmful conditions, but the abundance of conditions that support health. What we are talking about today is how we can apply the science and practice of emotional intelligence, to transform stress with resilience.
“Learning about how we can develop the building blocks of resilience in small but significant ways every day, is within the remit of every individual. This will help us deal with everyday setbacks and stresses, challenge the effects of burnout, but also arm us for occasions in our lives when we have to deal with life-changing events.”
Speaking at the event, Nicola Quinn, Tax Partner, PwC Cork said: “The pace of change in our work environment and the competing demands on our time have led to increased stress and burnout. It is really important that we as individuals and as employers recognise the need to look after not only our physical health but also our mental health.
“Small steps can make a difference and Barbara has provided us with some really useful insights today which we can all apply to help us build our emotional resilience to deal with those everyday stresses.”
