Cork’s Sorcha McCartan and Roscommon’s Saoirse Wynne are the winners of the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month awards for Ladies Football and Camogie for the month of August.

PwC is proud to recognise excellence in Gaelic Games through their sponsorship of the Player of the Month awards as well as the PwC All-Stars and the PwC Camogie All-Stars.

The August awards celebrate the country’s outstanding performers during the All-Ireland Camogie and Ladies Football finals.

Cork’s Sorcha McCartan was the focal point for Cork as they secured their 31st All-Ireland senior camogie title. The St. Finbarr’s forward was player of the match in the final, adding four points from play in front of a record crowd at Croke Park to round out an already impressive Championship tally.

An immense defensive display in a sweeper role in the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship Football final saw Saoirse Wynne inspire the Rossies to a convincing 2-12 to 0-06 victory over Fermanagh. Wynne’s selfless efforts and gritty determination contributed massively to Roscommon lifting the trophy for the first time in 21 years.

Enda McDonagh, Managing Partner, PwC Ireland, said: “August once again delivered an outstanding showcase of skill, commitment and determination across camogie and ladies football, as players and teams battled for silverware in the final days of the intercounty season. The performances we witnessed throughout the month were a testament to the dedication and hard work of players across both codes. Our two August recipients made an exceptional contribution to their respective teams and can be immensely proud of the impact they made on the biggest stage.

On behalf of everyone at PwC, I’d like to extend our warmest congratulations to Sorcha McCartan and Saoirse Wynne on being named the August Players of the Month.”

GPA CEO Tom Parsons said: “Congratulations to Sorcha and Saoirse on being named the August Players of the Month. Both played hugely influential roles in helping their counties to victory in their All-Ireland Finals, producing big performances when it mattered most. To finish the season as All-Ireland champions and receive the recognition of your fellow players at the pinnacle of the season is a fantastic achievement and they can be incredibly proud of the part they played in bringing All-Ireland success back to Cork and Roscommon. Our thanks again to PwC and the GAA for their continued partnership in these awards, in what was another outstanding year for Gaelic Games.”
